Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How often should I have my appliances serviced?

A. All manufacturers recommend that gas appliances are serviced on an annual basis. It is important to point out that a safety check is not the same as a service when you are comparing offers. Please ask for more information.

Q. What sort of guarantee will I receive?

A. All manufacturers offer a 12 month parts and labour guarantee. Some offer up to 15 years subject to conditions. Please ask for details.

Q. I want a new focal point, but don't know what I want. Where do I start?

A. Basic decisions include either gas or electric. Then, do you want a fireplace or not? If you want a fireplace, your next decision would be choosing from marble, stone, or timber. At Select appliances, we have a large showroom with a wide range of gas and electric fires and surrounds in all materials, so please come in and have a look.

Q. Should I choose a gas or electric fire?

A. A gas fire can give you a greater heat output, which may be important if this is your only form of heating. However, you can only see the flames when the fire is on. An electric fire will generally only give a maximum heat output of 2kw, or you can have a flame effect only. We have a wide range of gas and electric fires on display for you to see in our showroom.

Q. Can I have a gas fire if I don't have a chimney or flue?

A. If you don’t have a chimney or flue, you may be able to have a balanced flue, power flue, or flueless gas fire, depending on your situation. Please ask us for information.

Q. I would like a gas fire, but don't want coals?

A. This is no problem. Many gas fires are now available with coal or pebble options, and some have driftwood or logs.

Q. How do I know that what I have chosen will be suitable?

A. Our knowledgeable staff can offer expert advice in our showroom that is based on your individual needs. However, on occasion, it may be necessary for someone to do a home visit. This can be arranged at the time of order.

Q. How long does it take from point of order to the installation?

A. This depends on the manufacturer. Fires on average take from five to seven days and fireplaces from two to six weeks, with an average delivery of three weeks. It may take longer for anything that is tailor-made. Generally, all orders are placed at the time of sales so you can leave knowing you have an installation date all sorted out in advance. Where this is not the case, we will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible.

Q. Who will do the installation work?

A. We have our own fully qualified Gas Safe registered installers. They only work for us and only install our range of products. They will bring along everything to do the job. All of our installation work is notified to Gas Safe and in due course, you will receive a certificate for inclusion in your Home Information pack.

Q. What sort of after-sales service do you offer?

A. You will be given information on caring for your new fireplace to ensure that it stays in pristine condition. We are available Monday to Saturday to answer any queries you may have regarding your new purchase.

We can arrange to service your appliances and you will be contacted annually to book in a service. Should your product breakdown after the warranty has expired, we can arrange repairs as required  and are happy to give you quotes for the work to be done prior to the work being carried out.

Please feel free to contact us by telephone, email, or in person, if you have been unable to find an answer to your particular question.
